Veryfine does Avalon

AVALON: 1) An ocean island, where King Arthur resided and was buried. The word means "Apple island" (aval, apple; island); and it is generally thought to mean Glastonbury, a name derived from the Saxon glastn (green like glass).
2) NY's new exciting dance club hosting the famed AVALON sound system, located at 47 West 20th St. New York, NY

Friday, December 5th-Steve Lawler-"Lights Out" tour.

Despite the snow bliz, life never stops at the most popular underground club in New York City-Avalon. With its amazing line up, the club had a very promising night this past Friday. Steve Lawler was manning the decks promoting his new CD "Lights Out" Vol 2.
Starting the night, T 4 7 production presented I S M ( in - zun ) a visually enticing, interactive piece of artwork and theatrical event, combined with a fashion and art projections by Carl Nolting. I must admit that I wasn't expecting a lot of people for the opening act but boy was I wrong, looked like it was a full house for the ladies and gents of ISM and they kept the crowd going for a couple of hours until LIGHTS went OUT. Around 1:00 am the man himself, Steve Lawler entered the ring sending everyone into a different dimension with his Tribal-Proggy beats. He opened his set the same way his CD starts (2nd CD to be exact) with the "Two Months Off" accapella by Underworld and from then on it was nothing but good ol' big room tracks and Progressive mayhem. Once more, congratulation AVALON! What an amazing night.

Saturday, December 6th-Bad Boy Bill-Behind the Decks

On Saturday night it was Bad Boy Bill's turn to embrace the decks, unfortunately due to the snow storm, Blizzard 03 (sounds like a name of a party), Bad Boy Bill didn't show up, he was stuck in Pittsburgh, PA.
For a minute I forgot what the old Limelight used to look like, took me a few drinks to remember how it was back in 1996 when I was first introduced to the old Limelight. The Avalon is somewhat smaller than the old Limelight, but has a totally new look to it. The arcadia room no longer exists, its a reception area.
A few places were closed to the public because they were running private gatherings. The DJ booth is really nice, 3 Technics turntables , 2 Pioneer CD Turntables and the famous Rane knob mixer. The DJ booth also has this really cute black and white small bathroom, makes sense if you have to go. So since BBB wasn't there he was replaced by LANCE JORDAN who spun an awesome Progressive set. Too bad the crowd wasn't all there to witness it, but I guess the combination of bad weather and the main act's cancellation took a toll in public attendance. The sound systems was good and clean but not loud. Normally when it's loud, you would have to scream on a girls' ear to talk to her and have your hand cover your mouth in case you spit when you speak. After a while I moved to the hip hop room where PM PRODUCTIONS (Dalton and Rachid) were jamming to some blazing Hip Hop and RnB tunes.

Just like Lance Those DJ's also knew what was up, they knew that the crowd wanted to hear some old school Hip Hop from back in the days. I gotta tell you the Hip Hop room was a full house compared to the main room. People had the same dance moves in the Hip Hop room. Case in point: the guy has his right hand on the girls' butt and they have their drink up on high with their left hand and saying "Baby got back" while shacking their ass. I seen more smiles in the Hip Hop room than the main room, girls were getting their grooves on and PM PRODUCTIONS were doing a veryfine job.
Overall, a veryfine night and wouldn't be so without Betty Kang (Plexi), Dalton and Rachid from PM PRODUCTIONS and Lance Jordan from BLUE NOVA MUSIC.
