6.FULCRUM, a live electronic artist from the NYC area whose music combines practically all of the electronic/dance music genres. Electronic, electro, techno, dance, drum and bass, hardcoretech, IDM, illbient, industrial, EBM, trance, experimental, House, Hip-hop, trip-hop, ambient, break beat, minimal, loops, noise, down tempo, synthpop, etc.
Having spent many years yearning toÊpursue a lifetime passion, now, circumstances in life have enabledÊAjax Beatphreaker to pursue that passion - electronic-based music. From ABC to YMO. Everything is based in rhythms of life. Pulses. Codes. Numbers. Time.
Electronic music and sound experimentation has always beenÊhis fascination. It was something which has intrigued him like nothing else. From hearingÊthe strange, haunting rendition of Jimi Hendrix's version of "The Star-Spangled Banner", with its other-worldly sounds and effects "...inspired me to make music in any manner or form. I'm not a DJ, but the way that my music is performed, it is like aÊDJ in the aspect that I can change and combine different beats or textures as I see fit."ÊHaving grown up in the formative years of new wave, electro-pop, disco, and "...virtually everything else that I had heard" , electronic music has played an important part in his life. "Music moves in 20 year cycles, usually, so this is something that I had loved for years and it is a part of me and I felt that if I could combine the old with the new in electronic and perform it live, then I might be able to connect all of the pieces of music that I have in my head and expunge it like opening a channel of communication between myself and others."
Why the name FULCRUM?
"For me, it means a point where all of theÊgenres and things that I have listened to in my life, as far as electronic music is concerned,Êconnects and becomes something more than the sum of it's parts. I hope to dispell some myths about electronic music." In taking a minimalistic approach to music, "For the time being, music changes or evolves and I am sure that I will do the same as well, but this is fun! With just a beatbox and a monophonic synthesizer, it enables me to create and experiment on-the-spot. You don't need a ton of equipment to make something decent that can have far-reaching effects. Sometimes less IS more!ÊI can go, set up, and play just about anywhere.ÊI will be adding things in the future as soon as I can.
There is a sense of danger - a random element when playing live that is unique. The funny thing is that, chances are, I won't perform the same piece in the same way twice due to the way the music is structured. It keeps it fresh and exciting." Ajax is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist. "I've played other instrumentsÊin other bands years ago and flirted with the music industry, but the time wasn't right and I wasn't in the position to do what I am doing now at the time.
I am a bass player by trade but I love everything else. I play a few other instruments as well including programming sounds for synthesizers!" His music? "A combination of many different styles, moods,Êand genres of electronic music - sometimes apart, sometimes together...with a twist here and there. I listen to just about everything and I believe that there isÊgood music in every genre - unfortunately, you usually don't get to hear it on a grander scale. It's not that you don't have a choice, it's that usually,Êyou are not givenÊthe choice. You have to seek it out for yourself and I am glad to see that there are new venues for promoting music."
His plans for the future?
"I hope to get a disc out soon as people are asking me for them. Possibly some collaborations as I have a few other things in the works as well. I just hope to travel, perform, and create, and if I can share my musicÊwith others, I hope that it inspires someone inÊthe way thatÊthe music that I listen toÊhas inspired me."
Fulcrum-Friday-from 10:00 pm-12:00 am EST - Electronica.
