A word from Dan
When we first launched our broadcast streams (the "White Room" turned purple turned blue), very few people realized that a whole new evolution is about to take place in DJ performance standards. With the exception of DJs getting all drunk and doing crazy things while playing (i.e. aggressive bouncing behavior as performed by Dan Bino- Ed.) a lot has changed in the past 3 years since we first started broadcasting. The most noticeable difference is in technology of course, faster service providers have become the industry standard with Internet connectivity. Most viewers can now hear and view live internet feeds from around the world at the comfort of their bedroom/ living room with little if any hassle. And so, it was up to Downshift studios to serve as a camping ground for a wide variety of talent and to give each and every individual a stage to perform.
But online streaming doesn't just end with a live broadcast feed. At the creative end, file sharing has given a lot of artists a positive push forward with delivering their music inexpensively and reliably to DJs and record labels. While some of you might disagree with that theory and accuse file sharing to be the death of vinyl and other commercial music media, I always thought otherwise. There are a lot of networks (DSR NOT being one of them) that offer free music downloads for all to grab, sometimes resulting in abusive treatment of commercial material, but that doesn't mean that the listener would necessarily stop buying records because he or she can now get them on the net for free. No, the listener will ALWAYS be interested in purchasing good quality music, as long as it fits the bill. Having access to a lot of music online just makes music production a more competitive field, resulting in better quality material.
In summary, music is constantly evolving and not just in production or sound, but also with its deliverance and a lot of things that are offered for all for free should be treated as a blessing and not as a curse. Till next time...
Keep 'em dancin'
Dan Bino.

New show alert- MusicTone
Every Thursday, log on and tune in to the original sound of MusicTone, from 8-9:00 pm EST.
For Tony Santiago, AKA Musictone it all began at the tender age of 8, growing up in East New York , Brooklyn, Tony Started spinning after watching his Brother Dj, sneaking into his room to use his equipment, it got him in a lot of trouble after all his friends told his brother how much better Tony is at spinning. From then on and for the next 21 years Musictone had taken his hobby professionally from spinning at clubs like Morocco, 1018, The Melting Pot, Sundowners, The Circle, Backdrafts, Blue Angel, Melange, 1050 on Tenth Ave to producing his own music, and heavy remix work. For Musictone there isn't only one inspiring producer or genre, "music never gets old, it just gets interesting because you'll never know what will come out next...I'll play anything and everything."
Musictone found his passion in DJing after being given an opportunity to play for a rocking 3,000 plus crowd at club 1018, "Roman Ricardo gave me the chance to change the format for about 45 Min," he recalls, " I Threw on Big Daddy Kane's "Raw" And the crowd went crazy. I was only 18 Back then in 1988. That memory I Could say would last me a lifetime..."
For Musictone it's all about the progression of sound, "I was put on this planet to play music, When music comes out with something new and people don't like it, I change it, If people like it after I Change it, I appreciate it, If people like it when It's new, I'll Change it anyway, But Just remember "If Music Never Changes, Where Would Us DJ's Be Today"

New show alert- Sir Ive
Every other Saturday, log on and tune in to the Progressive, Tribal sounds of Sir Ive, from 10:00 pm- midnight EST.
Sir Ive started spinning as a freshman in high school, doing house parties for the local Hip-Hop heads. His love for the underground kept him up until the wee hours listening to the Stretch Armstrong & Bobbito radio show, and banging out beats on his 8 second sampler for his friends to rhyme to.
One night while out hearing Stretch at club Vinyl back in '93, he found his way to the main room where resident Lil' Louie Vega dropped the classic vocal track "Shout-n-out" featuring Donell Rush. "My hair friggin' stood up! I wanted to drive people into a mad frenzy like that. It was sick. From that moment on, I knew Hip-hop wasn't ever gonna do what House music could do for me.
These Days, Sir Ive spins mostly Tribal and Progressive beats, with a splash of everything else in between. His sound has been compared to the rhythms of DJ's from Spain and Portugal.
Listen to a set by Sir Ive
Sir Ive- Progressive, Tribal- Saturdays, bi-weekly 10:00 pm- midnight EST.
