A word from Dan
Every now and then I'll come across an interesting talented producer whose musical skills surpasses the average. I will then run into the studio, inspired and fully geared to work on a new production masterpiece, most of the time I'll end up hitting off a couple of loops and then eventually give up and write this editorial or do other painstaking internet based odd jobs. Not to change the subject however, this week we are very proud to showcase the talents of DJ/Producer Jeff Bennett. Jeff who has been at it for quite some years now has been producing quality electronic music under various labels. His discography is very impressive and his diversity shows that the man carries a deep passion to music and treats it as a true art form, not attempting to label his music. Keep on reading below and you will find more information about Jeff Bennett as well as a profile DJ set recorded recently. Now let me go back and try and polish that track...

DSR Spotlight-Jeff Bennett
Born in Poland and Raised in Sweden, Jeff Bennett has been involved with electronic dance music since 1992 but his fascination with it began as a hobby which later on turned into a lifestyle. His first single came out on his own label Maskros Music. Since then he has released over 30 singles on labels like Poker flat, Episode, Treibstoff, Intristc design, Konvex konkav, Jamayka, Morris audio and many others. Jeff's first album was released this summer on Episode.
In 1994 he opened a record store called Cosmic One Records which gave him a boost and he started gigging in various venues. A year later he started organizing his own parties and club dates. His longest residency was in a club called "Thank God It's Friday" were he played almost every Friday for over a year. Other guest appearances include: Fabric (London), Otto zutz (The edge, Barcelona), Fusion festival 2002 (Germany), Ostgut (Berlin), Terrys cafe (Frankfurt), Polartv (Berlin) and others.
In 1996 Jeff started "Azurite records", then he gave birth to "Maskros Music" in 1998 and 2 years later he started "Phunctional" & "Kung fu dub". Earliest influences came from Detroit musicians Derrick May, Juan Atkins and Kevin Saunderson, but also from Richie Hawtin's label Plus 8 and the artist there like Speedy J, Kenny Larkin etc.
Europe also had a big impact on him with artists like Stefan Roberts, 808 state, KLF, dreadzone, Terry lee brown Junior, Tikiman & labels like Plastic city, Poker Flat, SVEK, Circulation and others. Also a lot of reggae & dub artist like Augustus Pablo, Lee Perry, Mad Professor, Andy Horace, King Tubby, Barrington levy and others.
Currently residing in Oslo, Norway, Jeff is working hard on upcoming projects to be released on Audio beyond, Ibizaloopsound, EQ/Stomp and Sensei.

DJChkalov was one of thepioneer DJs surfacing out of the Soviet Union in early 80's. Disco, New Wave, Eletrofunk, Acid House... He used to spin all of that originally!
Now, well established as a DJ/Live Performer in the international community, DJChkalov produces his very own breed of electronic music- Hip-Hop/Disco/House/Jazz crossover.
Since the late 70s he was collecting records, ranging from Disco to Experimental Dance Music. Now he'll spin highlights of his constantly growing collection on DownShift Radio.

Naked Rhythm with DJ Loka
Loka's Naked Rhythm airs every Sunday night from 10 pm - Midnight EST (re-runs: Wedensdays 10:00 am-Noon EST).
Naked Rhythm is all about that thing, that RHYTHM, that sound... that is HOUSE. HOUSE IS LOVE!! Loka spins deep, soulful, tribal & progressive house straight from the the heart to the dancefloor. Having learned to spin initially as a teenager, she got back behind the turntables again three years ago. Since January of 2004, Loka has been spinning locally in NYC and now has a bi-weekly guest spot with The Original Studio 54 DJ Walter V at Rhone.
