A word from Dan
Here we are again with another busy week packed with new shows and articles. Despite the tight regulations and rulings, NYC seems to be doing quite well with a lot of new club openings and parties. One such example is "Playground", a party hosted by resident DJ-Nicolae. With several years of DJ experience, Nicolae has created the Playground parties, inviting an open minded crowd and it seems like he's onto something big. This week we welcome Nicolae for a special set at our studios where he he will play some of his eclectic House sets as demonstrated in the "Playground" events.
Back from their tour in Greece are the Dalagelis Bros. John Dalagelis played at Downshift last week for the first time after coming back and besides delivering yet another brilliant set, he spoke a little about his new releases with brother Nick Dalagelis. Check out his set here.
This week we start a new weekly section in our newsletter called "Downshift Tapes". Each week we will archive different shows and present them exclusively for your viewing/downloading pleasure. Hope you enjoy our selection this week.
Last, but not least, we'd like to welcome our latest edition to the crew-DJ Skeet, who plays a variety of electronic dance genres ranging from Electro to Progressive. Welcome aboard Skeet.
As always...
Keep 'em dancin'

Dan Bino.

Nicolae-Playground, NYC

On Sunday, May 2nd, log on from 8pm-10pm EST and tune in to the sounds of the "Playground" parties founder-Nicolae.

In a little less than a years time, Playground, an innovative free house music party has emerged onto the NYC underground party scene and grown in full force. Nicolae, a resident DJ and the founder of Playground, started the party at Sin Sin/Leopard Lounge (a weekly Thursday party in the east village). The Playground parties have built up a solid reputation for delivering great cutting edge house music and hosting an open minded and diverse crowd.
Thursday, April 29th is the opening of a new Playground, Mix at Six, at the newly redesigned upstairs lounge at Punch. Playground is working with John Davis (body & SOUL) and Down Deep to bring house music lovers a rare early midweek party option beginning at 6pm where they can unwind and get funky.
Playground is also a successful biweekly Saturday party at Bauhaus held on the 2nd & 4th Saturday of the month.
A Playground night is a special event. What makes these parties unique is the effort and passion put into the setup, music and vibe. Playground regulars enjoy and have come to expect that 'special sound and lighting.' The sound and atmosphere is key to Nicolae, so when the venue is lacking he enhances the vibe by bringing his own professional audio gear and lights.

Upcoming Nicolae events include:
Thursday 4.29 Mix at Six at PUNCH 913 Broadway (starting 6:00 pm)
Thursday 5.13 Filter14 432 West 14th St & Washington St (10-4)
Saturday 5.22 Bauhaus 196 Orchard St(10-4) with special guest Webster (DEF MIX)

New show alert-SKEET-Entropika Records, NYC

Every Monday, log on from 9:00 pm-10:00 pm EST and check out the sounds of DJ Skeet of Entropika Records, NYC.

Skeet (J. Matthew Pilger) began mixing records soon after attending now legendary NY parties like NASA and DISCO 2000. It officially began after graduating high school in the summer of 1992. As a result, he was influenced early on by the likes of Scott Henry, Keoki, Mr. Kleen, Frankie Bones and such others who pioneered the scene.
He attended the University of New Haven in CT. where he played an exceptional part of that scene's evolution. With friend James Fusion, he began "CYBERVIBE" which aired weekly for 3 years after. He also played the continental US and abroad in places like Germany, Italy, and Canada. SKEET graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music/Sound Engineering. After completing his degree, he began to focus on production work for the label ENTROPIKA Records which he founded with DJ mentors and friends Russ Urban & Jerry Fresh. He produced a monster hit "20/20 Translation" which featured samples from one 20/20 report on the rave scene which received support plays from Donald Glaud, Micro, Bones & one of his favorites, ...Scott Henry. Nowadays, Skeet works as an equity trader on Wall St. but still continues to produce music and remix as well as spinning Tech-House/Tribal/Electro-Progressive sets in and out of NYC.

Skeet-Tech-House/Tribal/Electro-Progressive-Mondays from 9:00 pm-10:00 pm EST.
