A Word From Dan

Not a lot of people affiliate Downshift with Hip Hop and Rap music, we are normally being labeled as a House/Techno station. That is of course incorrect. It is fair to say that in the past two years of streaming live DJ sets online we have tapped into almost every genre of dance and urban music known to mankind. I use the word "almost", just because there are probably more styles and sub genres of dance music than there are DJs spinning them.
The Live Wire show hosted by Rugged One spinning Hip Hop is one such show that has been around on our station ever since we started. Other Hip Hop shows included DJ Scandalous, Underworld of Hip Hop with Music Rocka and Raunchy elementz with Big Will Rosario just to name a few.
That's why I'm excited (believe me, it takes a lot to excite me) about our new show "The Dotted Line showcase special". Dotted Line is the brainchild of Eli Gonzales and Lael "VC" Boyd, a record label slash recording studio that caters to your underground Hip-Hop needs. The fine boys at Dotted Line introduced me to their concept of a spotlight show featuring both DJs and live MCs and I couldn't resist it. Their first show will air on Friday, October 24th from 6-8:00 pm and I will highly encourage everyone to check the show featuring some of the finest underground Hip-Hop talent coming out of NYC. For more info about "Dotted Line" click here.
Other then that, don't forget to check the rest of this weeks shows INCLUDING some House and Techno music :)
As always,
Keep 'em dancin',
Dan Bino

Carlos Sanchez on the DSH+.

On Wednesday, october 22nd, Tune in to the Deep Soulful House Plus show spotlighting Carlos Sanchez and vocalist Lorenzo Tyler, from 4-8:00 pm.
Carlos Sanchez is a Brooklyn native whose early studies in music began in church at the age of six leading him to a tour with a popular gospel group while still in his teens. On that solid base of musical training, he's built a successful career as a respected DJ/Producer/Songwriter/Vocalist and college professor among many other things.
From his first clubbing experiences in the early seventies until now, Sanchez has found inspiration in the likes of Stevie Wonder, Tee Scott and Nicky Siano among others. Energy he has interpreted into his own diverse musical style that has earned him noteworthy residencies from his debut at Leviticus, NYC to his current popular weekly party RHYTHM (667, Brooklyn). A respected retail veteran whose ear is equally legendary, Carlos is a versatile crowd-pleaser who is known for being capable of spinning in many different rooms and for any age group.
When not spinning in the club, you can catch Carlos in the studio where his keyboard and vocal arrangement skills are often employed by top artists, producers and on his own behalf, the Carlos Sanchez Movement. Beyond that, you can find Professor Sanchez at Pace University where he innovated the city's only academic look/listen to this thing called house entitled: World Music/The Underground. Told through a structured curriculum that included field trips to clubs and welcomed in pioneering industry members to relate their tales, the story of house was brought to a new generation of dance music lovers.
Carlos Sanchez on the DSH+, Deep Soulful House, Wednesday, October 22nd from 4-8:00 pm EST.

Marlon "Househedz" D on the Kinky show

On Thursday, October 23rd, tune in to hear the sounds of DJ Marlon D (Underground Collective) at the Kinky show starting 11:00 pm.
Marlon D. has been in the music business for the past 13 years. He's done everything from promoting parties, to producing music, he is one of the most successful, up and coming DJs to hit our industry today, proving it with his residency at the famous world renowned Underground Collective parties in New York City and his bimonthly residency in Los Angeles. Starting as a small promoter for big name clubs in the metro area led him to successfuly create and promote his own events. He always knew what the crowd wanted, and would concentrate on giving them newer things they would like. His ideas were "future ideas," he always thought ahead, and always succeeded. It wasn't until 1994 that Marlon was introduced to a musician named Mario, which happened to be the cousin of John Garcia (Gossip Records). Here is where he found his love for music production. Ever since then Marlon has worked on mixing and producing music to its finest. Soon thereafter, Marlon lunched his own record
label with partner Phil D. (Dancetracks) known as Underground Collective Recordings, produced as Househedz and currently running one of the best underground house parties in New York City, called Underground Collective. Marlon presents himself with an identity of "deep, sexy, vocal, House, with a touch of some of that funky soulful vibe. He is of Latin descent, born and raised in New Jersey, and as a child was exposed to Salsa, Afro Cuban music and classic guitar folklore. With legendary mentors to guide him through such as David Morales, Danny Tenaglia, Frankie Knuckles, Little Louie Vega, and Tony Humphries, he studied to master techniques listening to these DJs. Whether it was on a radio station or in a club, Marlon was destined to create a music empire, and this he has done. With upcoming releases, future events and much more, Marlon D. aka Househedz and Underground Collective is one to watch out for.
