Born October 16, 1967, in Puerto Rico, of Dominican decent and raised in Washington heights. DJ Ral became interested in djing during the elementary prom after listening to the magic that was created during the afternoon mix on hot 92. Since the clubs were out of the question the radio was the closest thing to hearing any DJ sets. He enjoyed listening to Jellybean, Shep Pettibone, the Latin Rascals, Aldo Marin and others. He was also inspired by all the block parties that Hex Hector and his partner Julio did throughout upper Manhattan.
In 1983 Ral started playing the decks. He got a first gig at a private party for friends and continued from there on. Most of the experience came from doing parties for friends and private parties. He also gained recognition by circulating mix tapes throughout the Heights. In the early nineties he became DJing regularly, after a long period of gigging, Ral took a break in favor of starting a family life and left DJing for several years.
During 1998 and 99, working in catering halls, the fever came back watching all the different DJs coming in for parties. Relying on his past experience, DJ Ral picked up where he left, only this time adapting to the new beat and keeping current with the new styles of music. Ral has played at the following venues: club Hideaway, Chez Sensual, P&J Sports Bar and most recently at Rare.
