Deep Soulful House Plus of New York City consists of six talented disc jockeys, all with their own unique styles, but share a common love and respect, musically and visually, for classic/underground house, soul, jazz, and afrocubrazilatinocarribiean music.
Founded in 2001 by Jay Stroman (dj jaysmoove) and long time friend Rodney Ransom (dj rodneybx) have together strived to preserve, introduce and re-establish this form of music that has of late been highly upstaged by an industry strongly influenced by monetary and commercial values. Their ultimate goal is to remind those who have forgotten as well as educate the new music listening public of how it all got started and to always respect the music.
To achieve this goal, Jay and Rodney in conjuction with the efforts of dj and co-producer Carey Magic have, for the past two years, been sharing their music and knowlege of the soulful underground scene live on a weekly basis on the world wide web at www.downshiftradio.com and many other highly successful personal engagements nation wide.
They have garnerd the respect and attracted the attention of several well known and up-coming DJs who have also appeared on the show. Such Djs as, Joey Vega, Quentin Harris, Kenny Carpenter, Adam Cruz, Jeannie Hopper, Robbie (Shelter/Dance Ritual,), Rubin Torro, Carlos Sanchez, Tommy Cruise, djs Brian Grant and Leon of Discorama, Camacho, Keith Porter, Jus 'Ed, Etc. The list just goes on. The weekly internet broadcast also welcomes and features live musicians, singers and poets.
Deep Soulful House Plus has grown from two members to six. The other members are, Carey McGrue (dj karmaleyez), Henry Arroyave (dj soulquest), Philippe Devieux (dj pheELingz) and Jay Mason (dj jc). Feel the true spirit of house, soul, world music and jazz as we conduct tag team soul session jams like the jazz cats from back in the day with Deep Soulful House Plus and always, respect the music.
