I first realized my interest in music when I was young and we had family and friends over, we had a Technics 230 belt drive turntable, I was always the one who played the music, no one told me what to play, I just played the right records and kept everyone enjoying the music. As I got older and Hip Hop emerged I began to understand the basic of Hip Hop mixing by taping radio shows on cassette. I started experimenting with mixing through the tapes, that's when I realized I could do something with it. I managed to save some money and purchased my first set of decks, Technic 230 & 300. I was only 13 when I was hired by a local school to do the 8th grade graduation party.
My mother was the one who inspired me. Since I was born, she played music for me. She loved music and had her own record collection. She used to go out clubbing at the original Studio 54, The Funhouse, The Garage. It was through the clubs that she found out what records to buy and passed them on to me for listening as well.
When Hip hop started I was inspired by the DJ's on the radio, Marly Marl, Red Alert, Teddy Ted of the Awesome 2. MCs Run DMC, KRS1, Africa Bambatta, Break Dance crews and Rock Steady Crew. They were a big influences in my career.
My most memorable performance was in the summer of '95. It was a house party for a friend of mine. The apartment was empty and it was one of the largest apartments in the projects. The party was scheduled to start at 9pm on a Friday night Till 3am. I set up my equipment and the place was packed before I threw on my first song, Crystal Waters, "She's Homeless", which was one of the hottest songs at the time. People were breaking sweat dancing, before I knew it, it was 3am and people didn't seem to wanna go home, so I kept on playing. The party lasted until 11am Saturday morning, that's when the "cops" came to shut it down.
